Most of the surfers have come across Wikipedia some time or other while searching for information on any topic. Thanks to Google Search which gives priority to Wikipedia entries giving them top place. This useful utility has completed 9 years of service on Friday, 14th January 2010 and marches ahead with renewed strength and full vigor.
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia which is created and maintained by general users. Entirely run by volunteers, editors, moderators and other persons who contribute and clean up articles on every imaginable subject. This encyclopedia is visited by millions of unique visitors seeking information every month.
Users can change anything on a particular topic (subject to restrictions and further changes or revisions). There are unlimited number of subjects and topics. Terms and items in the description are cross referenced (linked) to other Wikipedia entries, making it extremely easy to find comprehensive information and complete your research.
Since the entries and maintenance of subject material can be edited by any visitor, the information should not be considered to be complete or as a final answer, but is mostly accurate. Occasionally the entries may become complicated in an effort to provide neutral, objective or comprehensive articles. It is a great tool for many people to find answers about almost any topic. It is also in all of the main languages. There are entries in over 200 languages. People give the information, and the editors/moderators of the site check to make sure it is correct.
It is observed that Politics is one of the most favorite topics, attracting the largest number of hits, on par with Movies topics.
Let us all wish Wikipedia continued successful development in the future!
